My name’s Keaton Williams and I am a Rhabdomyosarcoma survivor.  At the age of 19 years old, I was diagnosed with this rare type of cancer and it changed my entire life forever. I underwent 10 months of aggressive chemotherapy and 5.5 weeks of radiation.

In the midst of all the emotional and physical roller coaster ride, I found Teen Cancer America. Through TCA, I was able to meet others who were affected by cancer just like I was, including survivors. This was a huge turning point in my outlook during my treatment because I finally saw that there IS a light at the end of the tunnel. Luckily, I was blessed to beat cancer and have been cancer free for five years now. I continue to be an advocate for Teen Cancer America because the Teen and Young Adult (TYA) population who are affected by cancer need a voice. When diagnosed at our age, we’re facing so many unique circumstances that unfortunately just simply do not receive as much attention as they should, such as our schooling, social life, romantic life, family life, and development. Today, I work in the Child Life field at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles as a Child Life Activity Coordinator and will continue to strive to grow in fields such as this one that helped someone like myself when I was a patient.
