Young Adult Lounge Opens at Connecticut Children’s
Teen Cancer America was thrilled to be a part of the opening of the new Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) lounge at Connecticut Children’s Medical center. Our partnership of program development and space has been an opportunity to enhance the cancer experience for this age group. The provider dedication and involvement of the young people themselves has been unwavering. There is so much more to come and we are looking forward to our growing relationship.
Natasha Fredrick, Director of the Comprehensive Fertility and Sexual Health Team, was present to share a few words about the reveal.
“We are so grateful to TCA for their partnership in developing our AYA Program. Their generous gift is enabling us to take our program to the next level, which is so important as this means that we will be able to provide better care for our AYA patients in the Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders,” said Fredrick. “Today we will reveal our new inpatient AYA Lounge. This is a space designed for AYAs by AYAs to provide a refuge during inpatient stays. Here they will be able to watch movies together, play games or do arts and crafts. They can also curl up in the cozy reading nook for some quiet time outside their room.”
Funding will also provide Connecticut Children’s with a new AYA Program Coordinator.
